Cheyney (1-1) fell 94-79 to Bowie State (3-4) in a non-league game at A.C. Jordan Arena on the Bowie campus. Deshawn Curtis paced the Wolves with 18 points. Teammate Brandon Norfleet added 15.
The contest see-sawed back in forth the first ten minutes. Trailing by one, 17-16, Curtis nailed back to back three-pointers to give the Wolves a five advantage, their biggest of the night. With 6:18 to go in the half, Bowie’s Byron Westmoreland hit a three pointer turning a one point deficit into a two lead that the Bulldogs would not relinquish. Westmoreland scored a game high 35 points including seven three pointers.
The Bulldogs built the lead up to seven before Cheyney went on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 53-52 after a Curtis lay-up with 15:24 to play. The Bulldogs immediately answered with ten unanswered points to push the lead to double digits where it would stay for most of the second half.
Cheyney will begin a five game home stand on Saturday against Indiana (PA) at 3:00 pm. The Wolves will be playing the five contests in nine days capped off by the Annual Battle of the Firsts against Lincoln on Sunday, December 9 at 6:30 pm.
