Javon Beaty scored a career high 17 points and Calvin Brown recorded he first collegiate double double as Cheyney(4-4:2-2) knocked off Edinboro (5-2:2-2)70-68 in OT. Brown also scored 17 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Jason Sabb paced the Wolves with 19 points including the game winning lay-up with :04 seconds remaining in overtime.
The Wolves had two chances to win the game in regulation but a Sabb jumper with :02 was off the mark and a Eugene Lett jumper at the buzzer did not connect.
It was all Cheyney in OT as the Wolves scored the first five points of the extra period and outscored the Fighting Scots 9-7 in the extra period. Beaty gave the Wolves a slim two point advantage on the Wolves first possession of the overtime period. After the Wolves stopped Edinboro, Brandon Norfleet knocked down a three-pointer to give the Wolves their biggest lead of the night. With :25 seconds remaining Edinboro’s Isaiah Prince hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 68. Sabb played hero for the Wolves hitting the winning shot with :04 seconds remaining. Edinboro had a chance to force a second overtime but a pair of free throws was off the mark with :01 remaining.
Cheyney will travel to Slippery Rock tomorrow night before taking time off to celebrate the holidays.
Edinboro led by as many as six points in the first half before settling on a 29-26 lead at the break.
