Cheyney (2-2:1-1) dropped a hard fought to decision to California (2-3:1-1)64-59 in a PSAC contest. The Wolves were led by Brandon Norfleet and Jayvon Beaty. Norfleet tallied 15 points while dishing out four assists. Beaty added 10 points and was credited with two blocks.

Cal’s Keith Lowe led all scorers with 23 points.

The Vulcans jumped out to a 9-2 lead before the Wolves battled back grabbing the lead, 11-10, for the first time at the 11:32 mark after a lay-up by Keith Mobley. Nursing a one point lead, 22-21, Cheyney went on an 8-2 run to push the advantage to seven before settling on a 32-30 lead at intermission.

The Vulcans quickly tied the game early in the second and led by as many as seven, 53-46 with just under eight minutes to play. Cheyney went on a 10-4 run capped by a Calvin Brown three pointer from the corner to cut the lead to one, 57-56 with 3:57 to play. Two minutes later Deshawn Curtis drained a three pointer and the game was knotted at 59. However the Wolves would not score the rest of the way.

The game was won from the charity stripe as the Vulcans made 11 of 16 attempts compared to 4 of 4 for the Wolves.

Cheyney will continue their home stand on Wednesday night against the University of the Sciences.
