Wolves Come Back Falls Short

Despite four players in double figures Cheyney (1-2:0-1) fell to Bloomsburg (3-0:1-0) in the Wolves home opener.  It was the first conference game of the year for both teams.

Jerrod Johnson and Rasahn Brinkley scored 19 apiece and Kevin Larkin and Darryl Bryant scored 18 and 10 points respectively.  Larkin also led all players with nine rebounds.

The Wolves fell behind early in part to the hot shooting Huskies.  Bloomsburg shot 16-28 (.517) in the first half and followed that up with 14-25 (.560) in the second half.  The Huskies were also an impressive 11-17 from behind the arc and 26-29 from the charity stripe. 
Bloomsburg led by as many as 21 points in the first half.  However, the Wolves chipped away to trim the lead to 50-37 at the break.  In the second half, with the Huskies up 16, Cheyney went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 60-54 with just under 12 minutes to play.  Cheyney was able to further cut the defict to four, 83-79 after a driving lay-up by Khalil Meadows.  But the Huskies answered with a 7-0 run to bring the lead back to double digits.


"As a group we need to play better defense," commented Coach Stephens.  "Today we couldn't stop anyone." 

Charles Haigler paced the Huskies with 24 points and six assists. 

Cheyney will be back in action on Saturday as the Wolves travel to Mansfield for a 3:00 PM tip-off.
