Box Score Kevin Larkin and Jerrod Johnson scored 19 and 15 points respectively but it wasn't enough as Cheyney (1-4) fell to Bowie (4-2) 77-66 in a non-conference contest.
The first half was a see-saw affair that featured five lead changes. Neither team had a lead larger than five points. Cheyney and Bowie went into half-time tied at 30.
The second half was a game of runs. The Bulldogs came out of the locker room to score the first nine points of the half. Cheyney responded with a 17-5 run to take a 47-44 lead after Mike Drinks drained a jumper with 13:21 remaining. With the score tied at 49, Bowie went on a 18-5 run to take a 67-54 advantage for their biggest lead of the afternoon with 6:15 to play. Cheyney was able to cut the deficit to 8 points on two occasions but were unable to get any closer in closing minutes.
Bowie grabbed 22 offensive rebounds which led to 25 second chance points. "It's hard to beat a good Bowie team if you give up 22 offensive rebounds. Those rebounds created 25 second chance points," commented Coach Stephens. "Bowie's height was a problem for us. We have to focus more on boxing out as we prepare for Kutztown on Wednesday night."
Andre Jackson led the Bulldogs with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Beck added 12 points. and 10 rebounds.
The Wolves will be back in action on Wednesday night. Cheyney will host Kutztown in an early season PSAC contest at 8:00 PM in Cope Hall. On Saturday night Cheyney will host Lincoln in the Battle of the Firsts.
