The Wolves jumped out to a 12-0 lead but could not hold on as Cheyney (1-7) fell 84-80 to Virginia State (7-2).  The Trojans rallied to tie the game at 16 seven minutes into the contest.  Back to back three-pointers in the final minute of the first half turned a four point Cheyney lead into a 35-33 Trojan lead at the break.

The Trojans controlled most of the second half.  Hot shooting propelled Virginia State to a 19 point advantage midway through the second half.  The Trojans shot 63% (17-27) from the field in the second half.  Cheyney rallied to cut the deficit to three but ran out of time and could not get any closer.

The Wolves forced a season high 24 turnovers but could not overcome the Trojans domination of the backboard, out-rebounding Cheyney 38-26.  Virginia State also owned the advantage from the foul line.  VSU was 21-32 while Cheyney was 11-18.

Kevin Larkin led the Wolves with 24 points.  A trio of Wolves, Jerrod Johnson, Juwan Mullen and Darryl Bryant, added 11 points apiece.

"We have to correct our poor free throw shooting at the end of games.  This is the second game in a row in which we struggled at the free throw line in the clutch.  I think we did enough to win but we have to close out games," stated Coach Stephens.  "Late turnovers didn't help either.  We have to correct those things starting tomorrow."

Lamar Kearse paced the Trojans with 22 points.

Cheyney will jump back into conference play with a road to Merychurst and Edinboro on Tuesday and Wednesday night.  Cheyney will return home on Saturday afternoon with a contest against Gannon.
