Box Score Cheyney (1-5:0-3) fell 76-61 to Kutztown (4-3:2-1) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's basketball contest. Jerrod Johnson paced Cheyney with 13 points while Kevin Larkin and Mike Drinks added 10 apiece.
Cheyney survived Kutztown's hot shooting in the first half. The Golden Bears were 11 of 21 (52%) from the field but were clinging to a four point advantage. The Wolves were able to stem the tide by only committing four first half turnovers and shooting 11 of 26 (42%). However, in the second half it was a different story. Kutztown used a 19-3 run to start the half to expand their four point halftime lead from which the Wolves could not recover. The Golden Bears extended the lead to 23 with seven minutes to play. Cheyney was able cut into the lead by going on an 18-8 spurt of their own to bring the deficit down to 13 but could not get any closer.
The Golden Bears did a lot of their damage form the charity stripe. Kutztown was 20 of 28 from the foul line, 15 of 21 during the second half compared to 7 of 15 for Cheyney.
Tynell Fortune led Kutztown with 19 points and Josh Johnson added 18.
Cheyney will step out of league play on Saturday as the Lady Wolves host Lincoln in the Battle of the Firsts. It is Cheyney's only Saturday night home game of the season. The Wolves and Lions tip-off at 7:30 PM in Cope Hall.
