CLARION, Pa. – A 15-to-0 run midway through the third quarter by Clarion University erased a five point Cheyney University advantage, as the Golden Eagles captured a 71-65 victory at home over the Wolves Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's basketball action inside Tippin Gymnasium.

Kyra Hines-Allen led Cheyney (0-2, 0-2 PSAC) with 18-points and 8-rebounds and
Amber Genwright added 14 for the Wolves.
TaKayla Ellis scored all nine of her points in the first-half on three shots from beyond the arc, to stake Cheyney to a 37-32 lead after two periods.
Clarion (1-3, 1-1 PSAC) jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Cheyney reeled off eight straight points to cut the deficit to 1, 9-8. Genwright connected on a three with 6:08 remaining in the first period to start the run. Fr.
Marlon Herring grabbed and offensive rebound and scored, and an
Aerie DeJesus (8pts) triple got the Wolves right back into the game with 4:58 to play in the first.
The Golden Eagle held a 20-17 edge after 10 minutes, Ellis led the Wolves with six points on two made three-point shots.
After Clarion built the lead to five at 22-17, Ellis hit her third from beyond the arc,
Quinniea Gross tied the game with a layup and
Shania Stamper drained a three to give the Wolves a 25-22 lead with 6:22 left in the second period.
Hines-Allen scored five straight for CU a Herring basket and
Genwright hit two from the charity stripe to give the Wolves a 34-27 lead with 2:18 left in the second period.
Clarion cut the lead to two at 34-32, but
Genwright scored the final three points of the half capped by a layup with two seconds on the clock.
Ellis paced Cheyney with nine points and three steals,
Genwright had eight points and
Dejesus added five points and five assists. The Wolves converted on 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and committed just six turnovers in the first half.
The second half started with both teams struggling to score and Cheyney holding a 41-39 lead, when.
DeJesus made a three to push the lead to five (44-39), with 6:10 to play in the third period.
The Golden Eagles then went on the decisive run to take a 54-44 edge, before a three-point play by
Adriene Small ended the run with just 50 seconds left in the third.
Clarion outscored the Wolves 15-to-0 off of turnovers and held a 56-49 lead heading into the final ten minutes.
Hines-Allen score to open the fourth and cut the lead to five (56-51), but Clarion scored the next nine points and grabbed a 65-51 edge.
Stamper, who finished with seven points, made four free-throws and
Hines-Allen hit a three to bring CU to within seven (65-58) with 3:18 left on the clock. The Wolves could get no closer until
Hines-Allen finished the scoring with a three-point play with 10 seconds to play.
Delrika Jones-Carey scored 15 of her team-high 18 points in the second half to lead the Golden Eagles.
Cheyney continues its road trip tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. when it takes on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
