CHEYNEY, Pa. –
TaKayla Ellis scored a career-high 20 points, but No. 12 California, Pa. spoiled the Cheyney University women's basketball teams' home opener with an 88-62 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Friday night inside Alfred Cope Hal.
Kyra Hines-Allen shot 5-or-8 from the field en route to finishing with 14-points, she also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Ellis, who had set a career-high with 16 points on Wednesday at Lincoln, made all eight of her free-throw attempts and was 2-of-4 from three point range.
Miki Glenn led the Vulcans (6-1, 5-0 PSAC W) with 23 points and five assists, Seairra Barrett added 17 points and nine rebounds and Precious Martin chipped in with 14 points.
The Wolves kept the game close in the first quarter and trailed by only three points at 15-12, following a
Kyra Hines-Allen basket, with 1:25 left.
Cal would score the next seven points, to take a 22-12 lead and Cheyney could get no closer than nine points the rest of the night.
The Wolves are right back in action tomorrow afternoon at Cope Hall when Slippery Rock visits at 2:00 p.m.
