Valiant Second Half Comeback Falls Short

Charles Ayetigbo
Box Score

A valiant second half comeback was not enough to spark the Wolves to an upset victory over visiting Lock Haven (9-15:9-11) as Cheyney (2-23:1-19) fell 95-81 in a PSAC East men's basketball contest.

Kevin Larkin paced the Wolves with 25 points and Charles Ayetigbo added 14 in the losing effort.

Cheyney trailed by 16 points early in the contest but rallied to cut the deficit to six before closed the half on a 10-2 run to take a 16 point lead into the halftime locker room.  An 18-3 run by the Wolves to start the second cut the Eagles lead to one, 50-49 with just over 14 minutes to play.  However it was all for naught as the Eagles rallied scoring the next seven points.  With an eight point lead, the Eagles went on an 11-4 spurt to push the lead to 15.  The contest stayed a double digit affair the rest of the way.

Wali Hepburn led the Eagles with 25 points including 14-16 from the charity stripe as all five Lock haven starters recorded double figures.

Cheyney will close out the home portion of the season on Saturday against cross town rival West Chester.  The Wolves will honor the lone senior on the team, Michael Drinks in a pre-game ceremony.  Tip-off is slated for 3:00 PM.
