CHEYNEY, Pa. -
Lakeem Duncan scored 15 of his career-high 23 points in the first half to lead the Cheyney University men's basketball team to a 32-29 lead at the half, but visiting Lock Haven made 25 second half free-throws en route to a 75-69 victory Saturday afternoon inside Alfred Cope Hall.
Juwan Mullen added 19-points and
Obafemi Ajayi made his first career-start and scored a career high eight points for the Wolves (2-11, 1-9 PSAC East).
Brahieme Jackson led the Bald Eagles (10-5, 6-5 PSAC East) with 18 points, Bootsie Walker had 15 and Lamin Fulton made all 12 of his free-throws and finished with 14 points.
Duncan and Ajayi scored the first 11 points for Cheyney, who jumped out to an 11-6 lead with 14:10 to play in the first half.
Duncan scored the first six on two three-pointers, Ajayi hit a rainbow jumper, then connected from downtown.
Walker responded with a three of his own and The Haven went on a six-point run to take its first lead of the game 13-11 with 11:58 to play.
Lock Haven built the lead to three at 22-19, but Cheyney responded with a personal 8-to-0 run by Duncan and the Wolves led 27-22 with 4:13 left in the half.
Cheyney went to the break with a 32-29 edge.
The Wolves scored the first five points of the second half to build its biggest lead of the game 37-29.
Dikemba Amugo started the half with a layup and Duncan followed with his fourth three-pointer of the contest.
Craig McGlond restored the eight-point advantage with a layup from
Eugene Lett and the Wolves led 41-33 at the 16:21 mark.
The Haven shaved the lead to two with a 6-point run, Mullen pushed the lead to four, but the Bald Eagles regained the edge at 44-43 with five straight points.
Mullen scored again as the Wolves led for a final time with 11:14 to play.
Lock Haven took a nine-point advantage with 4:27 to play, when Mullen responded with a three-point shot.
Duncan's three-point play brought the Wolves to within four at 71-67 with 29 seconds left, two free-throws by Fulton pushed the lead back to six.
Duncan made a layup with 13 ticks on the clock to cut the lead to four again, but two more free-throws provided the final score of 75-69.
Cheyney returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts crosstown rival West Chester University inside Cope Hall for an 8:00 p.m. tipoff.
