Men's Basketball Battles, But Falls late to Notre Dame College

WHEELING, W.V., - Jr. Craig McGlond scored 15 points to lead the Cheyney University men's basketball team, but Notre Dame College (Ohio), ended the game on an 11-5 run to come away with a 69-63 victory Saturday night at West Liberty University in the MEC/PSAC Challenge.

The Wolves (0-2) tied the contest at 58-58 on two free-throws from McGlond with 3:06 remaining to play. The Falcons (2-0) responded with a 6-0 run to take a 64-58 advantage at the 1:25 mark.

A free-throw and a jumper from McGlond cut the deficit to 64-61 with 1:01 to play, but the Wolves could not get any closer.

Cheyney jumped out to a 9-2 advantage to start the game on a three-pointer by Sr. Basir Fulmore, four points from Jr. Rafiq Marshall and a basket by McGlond.

Marshall scored 11 points in the first half, but the Falcons held a 38-36 lead at the break.

Cheyney shot 15-31 (.483) in the first half from the field, but connected on only 12-38 (.316) in the second twenty minutes.

Marshall finished with 13 points, a game-high six assists and grabbed four rebounds. Fulmore and Jr. Imir Bailey added eight points and eight rebounds each and So. Amir Boney also pulled in eight boards and scored six points.

Ja'Sean Lewis grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds and added 15 points, Will Voorhees led all players with 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Falcons to its second straight win to start the season.

The Wolves will host Virginia Union University in the home opener on Wednesday Nov-16, in the final game non-league contest before PSAC play begins on Saturday.
