Juwan Mullen tied his career-high with 23 points and grabbed a career-best eight rebounds, but the Wolves fell 86-82, in PSAC East action, at Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon inside Nelson Field House
The Wolves (2-22, 1-20 PSAC East) trailed 74-72 and had a chance to tie but a jump shot with 11 seconds left would not fall. The Huskies (17-8, 15-6 PSAC E) missed two free-throws with nine seconds left, but Kyle-Michael Rose grabbed the rebound for Bloomsburg and iced the game with two free-throws, his only points of the game.
Basir Fulmore added a career-bests of 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists,
Rafiq Marshall and
Eugene Lett scored 10 points each and
Imir Bailey pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and scored eight points.
The Huskies carried a 34-30 lead to the break, with Mullen pacing the Wolves with 11 first-half points. There were four lead changes and the game was tied four times in the first 20 minutes.
The Huskies scored first six points out of the break to push the lead 10 at 40-30, but Mullen scored eight early points to bring the wolves to within three at 47-44 with 11:57 to play.
The lead would fluctuate between two and eight with the Huskies holding a 71-64 advantage with 1:47 to play.
Fulmore then hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to four Mullen followed a Bloomsburg free-throw with a jumper to trim the deficit to 72-69 with 1:17 showing on the clock.
Christian Mortellite scored to push the lead to five, but Sr.
Michael Oyefusi connected from beyond the arc to make it a two-point game with 54 seconds remaining.
Cheyney forced a Bloomsburg turnover with 30 seconds left, but could not tie the game in the final moments.
Mullen went 10-of-16 from the field to match his career-high that he had set vs. Mansfield on January 27, 2016, and went over the
500 point plateau in his two years at Cheyney with a basket midway through the first half.Fulmore's total of 12-points eclipses the 10-point performance that he put up at West Chester on Wednesday.
Malik Garner led the Huskies with 21 points and Mortellite added 16.
The Wolves finish the season with two home games, Cheyney will host the University of the Sciences on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in a non-league contest, and then Mansfield visits Cope Hall for "Senior Night" on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
