Five Seniors Honored for Men's Basketball

CHEYNEY, Pa. - Five Cheyney University seniors were honored before the game, then the five took the floor and scored the first tem points of the game, but freshman Joe Marshall's layup with 11 seconds left propelled visiting Mansfield University to an 84-83 victory inside Cope Hall Wednesday night on Senior Night.

Sr. Eugene Lett led the Wolves with 15 points and eight assists, Sr. Juwan Mullen and So.Rafiq Marshall each scored 14 points, Sr. Michael Oyefusi added 13 points and So. Imir Bailey scored 10.

Cheyney moved out to a 13-point advantage as Marshall coming off a career-high 25 points on Monday vs USciences, came off the bench firing and connected of 5-of-6 shots for 12 first half points.

The Mountaineers cut the deficit down to 43-37 after the first twenty minutes.

Mansfield finally took its first lead of the game with 13:25 to play in the second-half, but freshman Dikemba Amugo who had earlier brought the crowd to its feet with a tomahawk dunk, put Cheyney in front on its next possession to ignite a six point run, which featured back-to back layups from Basir Fulmore, and the Wolves led 60-55 with 12:25 to play.

The Mountaineers would regain the lead on a Thomas Moore three-point shot, but Lett hit a floater in the paint and a three from beyond the arc to ignite a 10-to-2 runto put the Wolves up 72-63 with 8:31 remaining.

Cheyney held an 81-77 lead with 2:35 to play when Moore again connected from long distance to make it a one-point contest.

Rafiq Marshall made two free-throws to push the lead to 83-to-80, but Eric Lewis Jr. made a layup and blocked shots down the stretch, the final block leading to the fast break basket by Joe Marshall to provide the winning points.

Moore the only senior on Mansfield team close his career with 23 points, Matt Tamanosky added 17, brad Williams 15 and nine rebounds and Joe Marshall ended with a game-high 12 rebounds and 10 points.

The five seniors honored before the game were; Obafemi Ajayi, Mecheal Greene, Michael Oyefusi, Juwan Mullen and Eugen Lett Jr., the only four year member of the team, who was playing in his 100th career-game.
