CHEYNEY, Pa. -
Shania Stamper led the Cheyney University women's basketball squad with 11 points, but visiting East Stroudsburg University used a 28-5 run to turn a six point deficit into a 17 point half-time advantage en route to a 64-47 PSAC Eastern Division victory Saturday afternoon inside Alfred Cope Hall.
The Wolves (2-18, 0-16 PSAC E) led 19-13 with 6:32 to play in the second period, when the Warriors (11-10, 9-8 PSAC E) closed the period with a 14-3 run to take a 27-22 lead at the half.
The only basket for CU during the stretch was a three-point shot from TaKayla Ellis.
Ellis led the way with five points,
Kyra Hines-Allen,
Briana Hedgepeth and
Adriene Small each tallied four points for the Wolves.
ESU held Cheyney to only two points in the third period while scoring 14 points and led 41-24 after three periods.
Stamper added a team-leading three rebounds and a steal, while Hines Allen-finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Warriors were led by Imani Brown who came off the bench to score 13 points, Tyreca Reviere added nine points with game-highs of four assists and three steals.
Cheyney returns to action on Wednesday night Feb. 10 when it travels to PSAC East rival Lock Haven with the tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
