Virshawna Campbell collected a career-high 19 kills, to lead the Cheyney University women's volleyball team over The Lincoln University Thursday night, in part one the Battle of the First, in front of a raucous crowd inside Cope Hall.

The Lions (0-6), who were led by Mariah Russell with 13 kills and 18 digs, eked out a 26-24 decision in the third set momentarily quieting the crowd of over 400 that had the "Wolf Den" rocking.
Lincoln forged ahead 19-13 midway through the fourth set, and it looked as if the match was destined to go the distance, but a six point run tied the match at 19-19.
The teams traded points until the Wolves took a two-point advantage at 23-21 and again at 24-22. With the crowd poised for the celebration the Lions clawed back into a tie at 24-24. A kill by So.
Alaiya Cave had Cheyney on the brink of victory only to see the visitors tie the match at 25-25.

Chelsea Hutson then put the Wolves ahead to stay and Campbell set the crowd into a frenzy with the final kill of the match.
Hutson registered 14 kills and 15 digs for her first double-double of the season, Campbell recorded her second with 11 digs to go with her game-high 19 kills. Fr.,

The Lions will have a chance to quickly avenge the defeat, when the teams meet again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside Manuel Rivero Gymnasium, in part two of the Battle of First, volleyball edition.
