Men's Basketball's Second-Half Comeback Falls Short in Loss to Bloomsburg

CHEYNEY, Pa. – So. Amir Boney scored 16 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out four assists to lead the Cheyney University men's basketball team, but the Wolves, but visiting Bloomsburg University connected on all 17 second half free-throws en route to a 73-63 victory Saturday afternoon in PSAC East action inside Cope Hall.

Cheyney (2-17, 2-13 PSAC E) trailed 58-37 at the 13:53 minute mark, when it went on a 17-point run to cut the deficit down to 58-54 with 7:03 left in the contest. The Huskies (11-8, 7-8 PSAC E) finally scored with 6:33 to play on two free-throws and pushed the lead back to 10 at 64-54 on six straight from the line.

Sr. Basir Fulmore hit a corner three-pointer to cut the lead down to seven, but the Wolves could not close the deficit as Bloomsburg made six more free-throws and Christian Mortellite, who led all players with 23 points, made his fifth three- pointer of the game to lead the Huskies to the victory.

Jr. Rafiq Marshall scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, had three steals and two assists, Fulmore finished with seven points, three steals and three rebounds, while Fr. Mike Mohamed added seven points, four assists and four rebounds and Jr. Craig Mcglond chipped in with seven points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Wolves held a 38-26 advantage off the glass, but the Huskies went 8-15 (.533) from beyond the arc compared to 2-7 (.286) for Cheyney.

The free-throw shooting in the game was exceptional! Cheyney shot 17-21 (.810) and the Huskies were 21-22 (.955) from the charity stripe.

The Wolves return to action on Monday night at 7:30, as they welcome HBCU rival The Lincoln University, in the Battle of the First.
