CHEYNEY, Pa. –The Cheyney men's basketball team cut a 23-point second half deficit down to seven, but could not get any closer falling to Edinboro University 74-60, Saturday afternoon in PSAC Crossover action, inside Cope Hall.
Cliff St. Juste led Cheyney (1-8, 0-4 PSAC E) with 18 points and Amir Boney scored 11 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Jaymon Mason scored a game-high 27 points including six three-point shots and Keshawn Liggins corralled a game-high 14 rebounds and scored 20 points to lead the Fighting Scots (6-2, 4-1 PSAC W) to the victory.
The Wolves trailed 55-32 with 13:46 to play, when Zahir Stewart sparked a 25-9 run with a three-point shot. Jeff Lewis made two layups and St. Juste went on a personal six-point run and Stewart scored in the lane to give the crowd hope and make it a 59-47 contest with 8:08 to play.
Mason hit a step-back three, but Stewart responded with two layups, after a basket by Edinboro made it 64-51, St. Juste ignited another six-point Cheyney run with a layup, then found Lewis for a layup and Boney made two free-throws as Cheyney pulled within seven at 64-57 with 2:50 to play.
The Fighting Scots, who went 22-25 (88%) from the line in the game, made all eight of their free-throw shots down the stretch, to come away with the 74-60 victory.
Stewart scored nine points, while Lewis and Brewster Ward III each added six points for Cheyney.
The Wolves are off for the holiday break and return to action on Saturday, Dec. 30, when they open up PSAC East action at Millersville with tipoff scheduled for 3:00 PM.
