TaKayla Ellis Ties All-Time 3's Mark in Loss at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Jr. TaKayla Ellis connected on two three-point shots to tie the all-time record of 108 held by Martina Randall 2005-09, but host Shippensburg used a 12-0 run to pull away mid-way through the second quarter en route to a 73-45 victory Saturday afternoon inside Heiges Field House.

Ellis led the Wolves (5-17, 5-16 PSAC E) with 16 points, three assists, with four rebounds and two steals. Thel Raiders (22-5, 17-4 PSAC E) had all five starters reach double-figures in winning for the 17th straight game.

So. Marlon Herring led the Wolves with a game-high nine rebounds and added six points with two steals.

The Lady Wolves trailed 12-8 after the first quarter, then closed to within two with a basket by Sr. Taschell Phillips, after Shippensburg pushed out to an 18-12 advantage, Eliis made an old-fashioned three-point play to bring the Lady Wolves within three at 18-15 with 5:44 to play in the second.

Lauren Gold, who led the Raiders with 15 points on 5-of-7 on three-point shots, ignited the Raiders the decisive run with a three-pointer, then added two more from downtown as Shippensburg took a 30-15 advantage.

The Wolves, who trailed 34-19 at half, started the second half with six-straight to make it a nine-point contest at 34-25.

So. Briana Hedgepeth scored from Ellis, then Ellis converted a steal into a layup and Sr. Amber Genwright made two free-throws.

The Raiders responded with back-to-back three-point shots to push the lead back to 15 and carried a 49-29 advantage into the fourth.

Ellis held without a three-pointer in the first three periods, connected from downtown at the 4:53 mark, to pull within one of the record, then hit another triple with 3:54 to play to tie the all-time Cheyney University record with 108 made three's in her career.

Ellis will attempt to take sole possession of the record on Saturday Feb. 25 when the Lady Wolves will host Millersville on Senior Day with the tipoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. inside Alfred Cope Hall.

Cheyney will honor its three seniors: Amber Genwright, Adriene Small and Taschell Phillips in a pre-game ceremony following the men's contest, that is scheduled to tipoff at 1:00 p.m.
