CHEYNEY, Pa. – Cheyney University honored it 1978 men's Division II National Championship team prior to the men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon inside Cope Hall.
The Wolves (2-22, 2-18 PSAC E) came out strong and kept the game even 19-19 with 6:51 to play in the first half, but visiting Kutztown (19-5, 15-5 PSAC E) used a 19-3 run to take control of the game and went on to a 93-59 victory in PSAC East action.
Derrick Biney scored a career-high 10 points, Amir Boney also scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds and Jeff Lewis added eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Rafiq Marshall paced the Golden Bears with 22 points and Moe Williams registered a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds connecting on all eight of his shots.
Prior to the game several members of the 1978 men's basketball championship team were joined on the court with trainer Joe Iezzi and Naismith Hall of Fame head coach John Chaney.

Coaching Staff
John Chaney Bethune Cookman '55 2001 Naismith Hall of Fame 741 victories overall record with the first 225-59 coming during his ten season's from the 1973-1982 at Cheyney.
Charlie Songster who passed away in 2017, was hired at Cheyney in 1965 and remained until his retirement in 2000. Songster was the head coach from 1982-1989 and amassed 137 victories and his 1986 squad made it to the national semifinals. Songster was inducted into the Cheyney University Hall of Fame in 1994
Trainer Joe Iezzi served as the head athletic trainer from 1975-1985 at Cheyney and was inducted into the Cheyney University Hall of Fame in 2012.
