CHEYNEY, Pa. - The Cheyney University women's basketball team dropped a 60-53 decision as they hosted Bloomsburg University in a pivotal PSAC East matinee that started at 3:30 PM inside Cope Hall Wednesday afternoon.
Yasmine Dorrielan led the Wolves (5-17, 3-13 PSAC E) with 15 points and a game-high tying eight rebounds, Gianni Hill added 10 points with four rebounds and two assists.
Alyssa Mack came off the Huskies (9-15, 6-12 PSAC E) bench to score a game-high 22 points and matched Dorrielan with eight rebounds and dished out a game-high four assists, to lead Bloomsburg to a season sweep of the Wolves and a three game advantage over Cheyney for one of the final six playoff spots in the east.
The Wolves opened the game with the first six points and two baskets from Dorrielan, followed by a steal by Ja'la Walker that led to a layup for Hill.
After Mack made it a one-point game, TaKayla Ellis scored five straight and Cheyney led 11-5 with under four minutes to play in the first quarter.
Bloomsburg went on an 8-0 run before Ellis would score again to tie the game at 13-13 after the first.
The Huskies score the first two baskets of the second period, but Briana Hedgepeth would spark a 13-4 run with seven consecutive points for the Lady Wolves and Cheyney held a 26-21 edge with 2:27 to play in the half.
Bloomsburg scored the final seven points to take a 28-26 lead after 20 minutes and would not trail again.
The Huskies built a seven point advantage in the final :03 of the third period, but Khadijah Pearson mad a 35 foot three-point shot at the buzzer to pull Cheyney within four 45-41 heading to the fourth.
Dorrielan cut the lead to two, but Mack would answer with two layups, Hedgepeth cut the deficit to four 49-45 with 7:26 to play, but Cheyney could get no closer as the lead went as high as 11 during the final period.
Hedgepeth finished with 11 points two rebounds and two steals, Pearson had a strong all-around game with eight points, six rebounds and two assists, Ellis added nine points three boards and two assists and Walker collected six rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Cheyney heads to cross town rival West Chester on Saturday for its final road contest of the season.
