GALLOWAY, N.J. –
Nickeela Austin qualified for the PSAC Championships and captured the title in the triple jump and long jump and
Nazirah Purnell set a new Cheyney mark in the 800 to lead the women's track and field squad at the Stockton Invitational Saturday in the outdoor season opener.
Austin recorded the third-longest distance in school history in the long jump 5.43m/17'9.75" to take the title and qualify for the PSAC's in May.
The sophomore also took home the crown in the triple jump with a distance of 11.07m/36'4" second only to Stephanie Orji who registered a leap of 12.21m/40'0.75" in 2010.
Purnell clocked a time of 2:27.23 to place seventh in the 800 and establish a new school mark, topping the 2:29.45 recorded by Jasmine Pitt in 2013.
Sheala Miles raced to heat victories and top five overall results in two races on Saturday.
Miles clocked a time of 12.93 to finish fifth in the 100 and crossed the line at 26.39 for a fourth-place result in the 200.
The Wolves return to action on Saturday, April 7, at the Bill Butler Classic at West Chester University.
