Lincoln, PA – The Cheyney men's basketball team opened the Inagural HBCU GAMEDAY CLASSIC falling to Bluefield State University 103-52 on Saturday afternoon inside Manuel Rivero Gymnasium on the campus of Lincoln University.
Freshman Jalen Boyd-Savage led the Wolves with 19 points, but the Big Blue dominated from the opening tip en route to its first victory of the season,to improve to 1-4, while Cheyney dropped its third in a row to an NCAA Division II foe and sit at 2-3 on the season.
In the nightcap, a free throw from Ethan Garita, with .09 seconds remaining, lifted host Lincoln to an 80-79 victory over the University of the District of Columbia. The Lions improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Firebirds stand at 2-3.
The Classic continues Sunday with the Firebirds and Big Blue opening the festivities at 2 PM, followed by the Battle of the Firsts with the Wolves and Lions set to tipoff at 4 PM.
