Cheyney, Pa. – Freshman
Jalen Boyd-Savage (Pennsauken, NJ, Paul VI HS, ) scored 21 points to lead all scorers, but a balanced Washington Adventist University (WAU) team downed the Wolves 71-56 as the Cheyney men's basketball returned to Cope Hall on Wednesday night.
The Shock (7-2) never trailed and built a 28-8 lead midway through the first half, but the Wolves (2-5) closed on a 15-7 run to pull within 34-23 at the half.
Boyd-Savage started the comeback with a personal five-point run and Cheyney closed with the final five points of the half on a basket from freshman
Robert Keys (Philadelphia, PA, Paul Robeson HS, ) and three point shot by sophomore
Kian Nixon (Upper Marlboro, MD, , Feather River CC), who tied Boyd-Savage with a team-high eight first half points.
The Shock opened the second half with two free-throws, Keys scored to bring the Wolves within 11 (36-25), a six-point run from WAU pushed the lead to 17 and the Wolves couldn't get the lead below 12 the rest of the way.
Nixon finished with 10 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Keys added nine points and three assists, and three steals and Boyd-Savage pulled down a team-high four boards and had three steals.
The Wolves are back in action on Saturday December 3 at Newport News Apprentice School in Newport News, VA with the tipoff scheduled for 4 PM.
