MBB Ends 2022 with Loss at Daemen

Amherst, NY, - Three Cheyney Wolves reached double figures in scoring on Saturday afternoon, but host Daemen University closed out 2022 with a 76-53 victory in men's basketball action inside Lumsden Gymnasium on the campus of Daemen University.

Freshman Jalen Boyd-Savage (Pennsauken, NJ, Paul VI HS,) led the Wolves (2-11) with 18 points and three steals, sophomore Kian Nixon (Upper Marlboro, MD, , Feather River CC) added 10 points and four rebounds and freshman Robert Keys (Philadelphia, PA, Paul Robeson HS,) paced Cheyney with five rebounds and five assists, while scoring 10 points.

The NCAA Division II Wildcats evened its record at 6-6.

The Wolves used a quick 5-0 run, on a layup from Boyd-Savage and a three-point shot from Nixon to take a 9-8 lead early in the contest. The Wildcats jumped ahead 14-9, but a personal five-point run started by another three from Nixon and two free-throws tied the game at 14-14. Two free-throws from sophomore Nathan Rosario (Philadelphia, PA, Parkway HS, ) again tied the game at 16-16 at the 11:08 mark of the first half.

Daemen then used an 18-0 spurt to take control as the Wolves would not score again until Boyd-Savage was fouled while making a three-point shot with 4:32 remaining. He then completed a four-point play with the free-throw.

The Wildcats took a 44-26 advantage into the break.

Cheyney would pull to as close as 13 points in the second half at 47-34, on consecutive three pointers from Boyd-Savage with 16:46 to play. The Wildcats responded with an eight point run and saw the game out with its largest lead coming at the final score.

Rosario scored a season-high seven points and freshman RRynell Bert (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy HS,) scored six points, grabbed four boards and his three steals tied Boyd-Savage for team-high.

The Wolves open 2023 with two home games. On Wednesday a 7:30 p.m. tipoff vs Penn State Lehigh Valley following the women's game at 5:300, and then on Saturday afternoon Cheyney hosts Queens College at 3 p.m. inside Cope Hall.
