Despite a combined eight kills and 35 attacks by Breanna Joseph and Lindsay Ashby, Cheyney fell 3-0 to West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Volleyball action.
The Golden Rams jumped out to an 8-2 lead en route to a 25-11 victory in the first set. Set two was a repeat of the first set. WCU led 12-7 before pulling away, equaling the score of the first set. The Golden Rams kept up the pressure in the third. Cheyney hung in the set early trailing 8-5. But the Golden Rams scored the next ten points and cruised to a 25-9 victory.
Kennetha Wallace and Virshae Campbell combined for 13 digs.
Julia O'Brien led WCU with 10 kills off 16 attacks. Setter Samantha Agostini was credited with 13 assists. Tyler Sheafer led all players with 13 digs.
Cheyney is back in action this weekend at Pitt-Johnstown on Friday night and then a 10:00 AM double header at Lock Haven on Saturday.
NOTE: Tonight the Lady Wolves kicked off their month of
Dig for the Cure. The team wore pink socks and hosted a serving contest in between sets two and three. During the serving contest only two people won. An unidentified Cheyney student won $ 2.00 at the Concession Stand and an Assistant Coach with West Chester won a Cheyney water bottle. Fans were asked to donate $ 1.00 for three serves to win a prize. The money raised went to Susan G. Komen. The Lady Wolves Volleyball team will continue
Dig for the Cure at their remaining home games in October. Cheyney will host East Stroudsburg and Kutztown on October 25 and 26.
