Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Cheyney University played host to Virginia State (2-0) and the University of the Sciences (1-1)  in College volleyball action.  It was the first action each of the schools has seen this year.  The Lady Trojans of Virginia State finished the day 2-0 downing Cheyney (0-2) in three straight to start the day.  They followed that up with a thrilling five set match against USciences.  The Lady Devils of USciences were victorious in the nightcap downing the Lady Wolves 3-0.

In the first set against the Lady Trojans, Cheyney came out a little tentative and fell behind 15-7.  Cheyney was unable to recover dropping the first set 25-15.  In the second set Cheyney got off to a better start.  The game was knotted at five and the Lady Wolves then found themselves trailing 10-9 but VSU went on a 10-5 to take control before winning the set 25-19.  In the third, Cheyney surrendered the first five points of the set as the Lady Trojans prevailed 25-14.

In the match Breanna Joseph led all players with 27 attacks and paced Cheyney with six kills.  Kennetha Wallace recorded nine digs for the Lady Wolves.

In the nightcap against USciences, Joseph once again led Cheyney with 20 attacks and six kills.  Wallace was credited with seven assists and 13 digs to pace the Lady Wolves.

In the first set Cheyney jumped out to an 11-9 advantage only to see USciences score the next seven points before claiming the set 25-17.  Set number was also a battle as the Lady Wolves and Devils were knotted at 19 before Usciences ran of the final six points of the set.  The third set was tied at nine until the Lady Devils went on a 5-0 run to take control.  Cheyney was able to battle back on several occasions to cut the deficit to two but could not get any closer.  USciences prevailed 25-20.

"I thought we played well, Comment Cheyney head coach Joan Braid.  "These were quality opponents.  Last year Virginia State won the CIAA North and USciences beat us pretty good.  We held our own out there today.  Against USciences we were in every set.  Tuesday against Lincoln is also going to be tough despite the fact that we beat them twice a year ago."

Cheyney is back in action on Tuesday night as the "Battle of the Firsts" comes to Cope Hall at 7:00 pm.  Cheyney will host Lincoln in a non-conference dual.
