Cheyney, PA - The Women's Volleyball team wrapped up their season as they faced Lock Haven University and the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown in two back to back double headers Friday and Saturday at Alfred Cope Hall Gymnasium. On Friday, Cheyney University lost to Lock Haven University in straight sets in both matches. In Match 1, Cheyney University lost 25-12, 25-11, 25-13. In the second Match the Lady Wolves battled fervently, but they still came up short losing 25-20, 25-17, 25-17.
In the second double header on Saturday Cheyney University Women's Volleyball dropped three straight sets in both matches. In the first match Freshman
Alaiya Cave (Omaha, NE, Omaha North High Magnet HS) led the offense with 8 kills followed closely by Senior
Virshae Campbell (Long Beach, CA, Silverado HS) with 7. Senior
Kilondra Davis (Cocoa, FL, Rockledge HS) contributed 12 digs with Junior
Chelsea Hutson (Phoenix, AZ, Apollo HS) and Freshman
Sabrina Hill-Williams (Bowie, MD, Charles Herbert Flowers HS) contributing 11 and 10 digs respectively.
Nishay Carrier (Harrisburg, PA, Harrisburg HS) recorded 14 assists and Junior
Akia Harris (Detroit, MI, Chandler Park Academy HS) had 1 ace to balance out the Lady Wolves offense. Cheyney University lost all three sets 25-17, 25-12, 25-15.
In the second match of the Pitt-Johnstown double header
Alaiya Cave had 6 kills with
Nishay Carrier and
Chelsea Hutson recording 3 apiece.
Alaiya Cave also had 3 aces with
Kilondra Davis and
Virshae Campbell each chipping in 1 apiece.
Chelsea Hutson anchored the defense with 7 digs followed by
Akia Harris with 4 and
Virshae Campbell with 4.
Nishay Carrier also had 11 assists. Cheyney University lost all three sets by the final score 25-13, 25-14, 25-14.
Cheyney University Women's Volleyball finished the season 2-29 (0-22 PSAC). However the final victory tally does not reflect the encouraging signs displayed by this team. All but two players are scheduled to return next season and despite being undermanned, they competed valiantly all season.
Senior
Kilondra Davis is scheduled to graduate in May with a degree in Psychology. She also boasts the highest GPA of the entire team. After graduation she plans on attending grad school to get her Master's in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling and her PhD in Psychology. Kilondra credits Cheyney University with granting her the opportunity to "pursue both of my loves; school and volleyball." She is also grateful for the opportunities that Cheyney University provided her in preparation of her professional pursuits.
Senior
Virshae Campbell is scheduled to graduate in December with a degree in Social Relations and a Minor in Psychology, a full semester early. She boasts the second highest GPA on the team and after graduation plans on attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice (NY) in the Masters of Forensic Psychology program. She plans on furthering her education with aspirations of attaining her PhD by the age of 25. She credits Cheyney University with providing a family atmosphere and being "surrounded by people who love me and want to see me flourish in life."
