Lady Wolves Set Three Records at Battle of the First


Cheyney set three school records at the Battle of the First ….the Track and Field Edition.  Jasmine Pitt posted a 5:24.75 to set a new Cheyney record in the 1500 m.  The 4 x 100 relay team of Jasmine Carter, Simone Carter, Ashley Quattlebaum and Shanavia Thomas also posted a new mark finishing the relay in 47.50.  Cheyney’s Shali Muhammad held off Jillian Lee in the 400 hurdles and crossed the line in 1:06.28 to set a new school record.

Jasmine Carter and Simone Carter took gold and silver in the 100 m in times of 12.39 and 12.80.  Cheyney swept the 200 m.  Shanavia Thomas, Jasmine Carter and Ashley Quattlebaum finished one, two three in times of 26.50, 26.70 and 27.35 respectively.  Thomas also won the 400 m in 58.14 while team mate Diane Garrison finished the loop in 1:00.34 for a third place finish.  Kevia DeLorne placed second in the 800 m crossing the tape in 2:36.13.    Thomas and Muhammad finished second and third in the long jump with efforts of 5.51 m and 5.24 m respectfully.  Taniqua Purdie took home the silver medal in triple jump with a mark of 9.91m. Natasha Lyburn topped all competitors in the shot put with a mark of 11.64 m.  Lyburn also finished third in the javelin with a mark of 24.50 m.

“I’m proud of how we performed,”  state Head Coach James Williams.

Lincoln topped Cheyney 54-45 in the team scoring.
