CHEYNEY, Pa. - Cheyney University Junior
Adriene Small grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and connected on her first career three point shot, but visiting Indiana (PA), (IUP) came away with a 56 -34 victory Sunday afternoon in PSAC action inside Alfred Cope Hall.
Sophomore
TaKayla Ellis led the Wolves (2-10, 0-8 PSAC East) with 12 points. IUP jumped out to a 15-2 lead and led 15-6 after the first 10 minutes.
Small opened the second period with a three-pointer as Cheyney went on a 10-0 run to open the second and trailed by only three at 19-16 with 6:35 to play in the first half.
Amber Genwright who finished with eight points made back-to-back layups and
Marlon Herring converted a pass from Ellis to cut the deficit to three at 19-16.
Zhane Brooks, who led the Crimson Hawks (10-3, 7-2 PSAC West) with 21 points and 15 rebounds, ended the IUP drought with a jumper with 2:41 remaining in the half to ignite a seven-point run as the Crimson Hawks took a 26-16 lead into the break.
Megan Smith opened the third with a jumper to push the run to nine and the lead to 12 at 28-16, but
Shania Stamper made a three-point play to cut the lead to single digits at 28-19. Smith and Ellis exchanged three-pointers and the lead stayed at nine, 31-22 with 7:34 left in the third period.
IUP went on an 11-2 run to go ahead 42-24 and carried a 44-30 lead into the fourth period.
Cheyney is back in action on Wednesday Jan. 6 as they travel to Greensburg, Pa. to take on PSAC West foe Seton Hill University at 5:30 p.m.
