WHEELING, W.V., - The Cheyney University men's basketball team knew it had a tough task in opening at West Liberty University, the top ranked team in the nation Friday night , and for a few minutes early in the contest, the Wolves were hanging with the Hilltoppers and trailed by only a 13-11 score at the five minute mark.
Unfortunately for the young Wolves the hosts scored the next 18 points and kept building on its lead en route to a 135-55 victory in the season opener for both teams.
Freshman Zahir Stewart finished as the leading scorer for Cheyney with 13 points, while So. Amir Boney grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and added nine points.
Zac Grossenbacher led all player with eighteen points and 11 rebounds, eight Hilltoppers reached double-figures in scoring.
Cheyney is back on the court vs Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Saturday evening at 5:30 PM in the finale of the MEC/PSAC Challenge. The Falcons downed West Chester 96-87 Friday night.
