SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa- A 22-6 run to start the game propelled host Slippery Rock University to a 58-36 victory over the Cheyney University men's basketball team in PSAC Crossover Sunday afternoon inside Morrow Field House.
The Wolves (1-7, 1-3 PSAC) coming off its first victory of the season on Saturday, scored the opening basket of the game, but then were outscored 22-4 and trailed The Rock (5-4, 2-2 PSAC) 22-6 with 9:03 left in the first half.
Sr. Basir Fulmore made back-to-back three-point shots to cut the deficit to 22-12 and Fr. Zahir Stewart made two free-throws and followed with a steal and a dunk to bring Cheyney within six at 22-16 and cap a 10-point Wolves run.
The Rock closed the half with a 9-2 run and led 31-18 at the break, Cheyney could get no closer than nine points in the second half.
Fulmore led Cheyney with nine points in the game on 3-of-5 shooting from downtown, Jr. Olin Ugo grabbed a team-high six rebounds and Jr. Andre Allen collected a team-best three steals and scored seven points.
Cheyney returns to action on Saturday Dec. 10 with a trip back west to take on the Fighting Scots of Edinboro in the final game before the winter break.
