SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa- A 25-10 third quarter propelled host Slippery Rock University to a 55-45 victory over the Cheyney University women's basketball team in PSAC Crossover Sunday afternoon inside Morrow Field House.
Jr. TaKayla Ellis led the Lady Wolves (0-4, 0-4 PSAC) with 11 points, eight coming in the first half that saw Cheyney take a 26-14 lead late in the second quarter.
The Rock, (4-5, 2-2 PSAC) closed the quarter on a six point run then blitzed the Wolves with a 25-10 third quarter to take a 45-36 edge going to the fourth.
Cheyney cut the deficit to 49-45 after a free-throw to complete a three-point play following a steal and layup by Taschell Phillips.
The Rock put the game away at the free-throw line where they connected on 18-23 attempts, while The Lady Wolves made 6-of-7 from the stripe.
So. Marlon Herring scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds, Sr. Adriene Small secured a team-high eight rebounds, scored six points, with two blocks and two steals.
Jr. Shania Stamper made two first half three-pointers for six points and added three assists, five rebounds and two steals. Ellis dished out a team-high six assists with four rebounds and a team-best four steals.
Cheyney returns to action on Saturday Dec. 10 with a trip back west to take on the Fighting Scots of Edinboro in the final game before the winter break.
