Golden Rams Down Men's Basketball

WEST CHESTER, PA. – Jr. Imir Bailey scored a season-high 17 points, but the Cheyney University men's basketball team Wolves could not withstand the three-point shooting and rebounding of host West Chester University in a 93-74 loss in PSAC East action inside Hollinger Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

Fr. Mike Mohamed connected on 3-of-4 from three-point range as the Wolves (1-14, 1-10 PSAC E) led 39-33 after the first 20 minutes. West Chester (6-9, 5-6 PSAC E) went 9-14 in the second half to pull away late for the victory.

Cheyney led by seven following a jumper from So. Amir Boney, but West Chester responded with three consecutive three-pointers to take it first lead of the second half. Jr. Issac Bittle made a jumper to tie the game at 48-48.

The golden Rams held a 57-52 lead, when the Wolves responded with back to back three-point plays to take a one-point lead at the 11:24 mark.

First it was Boney with a layup off a pass from Jr. Rafiq Marshall and then Jr. Craig McGlond grabbed and offensive board, converted the layup and was fouled his free-throw made it 58-57 lead for the Wolves.

The Golden Rams went on a seven point run to take the lead for good. The Wolves crawled with three at 68-65 on a basket from Marshall and free-throw from Bailey, but WCU used a 9-to-0 run to put the game away.

Mohamed finished with a career-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, 3-of-4 for his first career successful three-pointers. Bailey went 7-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line to account for his season-high 17 points.

McGlond ended with 11-points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field and connecting on all five of his free-throw attempts with six rebounds. Marshall led the way with five assists, grabbed six rebounds and scored 12-points.

Tyrell Long paced the Golden Rams with 26 points nine rebounds and six assists and Zach Bare added 24 including five-three-pointers.

Cheyney is next in action on Wednesday when Seton Hill University comes to Cope Hall for a PSAC Crossover game with the tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
