Near Triple Double for Rafiq Marshall in Loss to No. 8 Shippensburg

CHEYNEY, PA. – Cheyney University Jr. Rafiq Marshall registered a career-high with 27 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists performance to fall just one assist shy of a triple double, but #8 Shippensburg University connected on its first five shots of the game which included four three-pointers to take a 16-4 advantage that they never relinquished in a 99-89 victory to stay undefeated in PSAC East action Saturday afternoon inside Cope Hall.

The Wolves (2-15, 2-11 PSAC E) battle back to within seven points with 1:53 left in the first half, on the strength of its inside game from Amir Boney, Issac Bittle and Dikemba Amugo who combined for 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.

The Raiders (17-0, 13-0 PSAC E), connected on 11-of -26 three-point attempts were led by Justin McCarthur with 24 points and Dustin Sleva who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Marshall connected on 11-of-18 shots from the field, 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line to establish a new career-best point total, surpassing the 25 points he put up against USciences last February. The 10 rebounds are three better that his previous high, which he established vs Bowie State in Dec. 2015 and the nine assist match the total he dished out vs Edinboro on Dec. 3, 2016.

Boney scored all 11 of his points in the first half, Jr. Khaalis Carter added 12-points, five rebounds and three assists, Bittle closed with nine points, and Fr. Zahir Stewart pulled down a rookie-season high seven rebounds to go with seven points two assists and two steal.

The Wolves shot 16-of-19 (82.4%) from the free-throw line, while the Raiders went 26-of-35 (74.3%) from the charity stripe.

Cheyney held a 40-31 edge off the boards and both teams shot well form the field, Shippensburg finished 31-57 (54.45) and Cheyney shot a season best 47.9% on 34-71 in scoring its most points of the season and the most points allowed by the Raiders.

The Wolves will be on the road at Millersville on Wednesday night at 7:30, then return home to host Bloomsburg on Saturday at 3: 00 p.m. and then the Lincoln University on Monday Jan.30 for the Battle of the First with the women's game at 5:30.
