Four Wolves Reach Double Figures in Loss to Mansfield

CHEYNEY, Pa. – Jr. Rafiq Marshall led four Wolves in double-figures with 17 points, but it was not enough to overcome visiting Mansfield University, who came away with an 87-73 victory in PSAC East action Friday night inside Alfred Cope Hall.

So. Amir Boney added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Wolves (1-11, 1-7 PSAC E). Matt Tamanosky led all scorers with 23 going 9-of-11 from the field and Andreas Katapodis kept the Mounties (6-5, 4-4 PSAC E) in front with 17 second half points on 6-of-6 shooting including five three point shots.

Jr. Khaalis Carter scored 11 points for the second consecutive game, while Fr. Zahir Stewart also reached double-figures for Cheyney with 10 points, eight coming after the half-time break.

Mansfield led by as many as 12 points in the first 20 minutes, but the Wolves closed on an 8-to-1 run capped by a layup from Sr. Basir Fulmore with 11 seconds left and trim the Mounties lead to36-31 at the half.

Mansfield quickly pushed the lead out to 11, but Marshall and Carter made three-pointers to cut the deficit to five, Powell responded with a triple, but Marshall hit another three to make it a 45-40 game with 16:05 to play.

The game see-sawed and the Mounties led 51-43 when Katapodis started to take over from long range with a deep two-point shot, then made all five of his three-pointers to put the game out of reach.

Marshall added four steals three rebounds and two assists, while Jr. Issac Bittle made his Cheyney debut with six points and five rebounds.
