RICHMOND, Va. – Cheyney University men's basketball stepped out of conference for another road battle with an HBCU and CIAA school taking on Virginia Union University Thursday night inside Barco-Stevens Hall.
Olin Ugo pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds and scored seven points, but the Wolves (1-7) fell 85-47.
Four Panthers (4-5) finished in double-figures with Jemal Smith recording a game-high nine assists and scored 11 points.
Cheyney fell behind 10-2 to start the game, but responded with five points on three free-throws from Cliff St. Juste and a basket by Kyle Parker, to make it a three-point contest at 10-7.
St. Juste connected from downtown with 12:52 remaining in the first half to make it a 15-10 lead for the Panthers.
Neither team would score for the next two minutes, but a 7-0 run by Virginia Union pushed its advantage out to 12 points and the Wolves could get no closer than ten the rest of the game.
St. Juste the reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Week, led Cheyney with 11 points, Jeff Lewis added nine with a team-high three assists.
The Wolves will host Edinboro University on Saturday afternoon, as they return to PSAC action, in their final contest before the holiday break, with the tipoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
