MANSFIELD, Pa. – Cheyney University women's basketball closed out a stretch of four games in eight day with a loss to host Mansfield University 71-51 Saturday afternoon in PSAC East Action inside Decker Gymnasium.

Quinniea Gross paced the Wolves (3-15, 3-14 PSAC E) with 10 points, nine rebounds, a career-high tied her career-high with four blocks, set a new personal standard with three assists and added two steals.
Brielle Kelly led Mansfield (5-16, 3-14 PSAC E) with a game-high 22 points and 18 rebounds, the Mounties held a 51-25 advantage off the glass in a battle between two of the best rebounding schools in the PSAC.

Briana Hedgepeth scored to give Cheyney a 2-0 lead at the 6:47 mark. The Mounties took the lead for good on a three-pointer from Tianna Jackson with 5:07 to play in the first and then connected on seven straight shots to take control of the game and an 18-8 edge after 10 minutes.
A see-saw second period saw the Lady Wolves close with a 5-0 run to make it a 32-27 Mansfield lead at the half.
Hedgepeth grabbed five rebounds and tied Jr.
TaKayla Ellis with seven points each, while Kelly pulled down nine boards and scored six points, Jackson and Mary Kate Rumbaugh tallied eight points each to pace the Mounties.
Hedgepeth opened the second half with a layup to cut the deficit down to 32-29, Mansfield responded with a five point run to push lead back to eight at 37-29 and Cheyney could get no closer than six-points the rest of the way.
Hedgepeth finished with nine points, six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Ellis registered a team-high five assists and scored eight points and Sr.
Taschell Phillips added eight points for the Lady Wolves.
Ellis did not make a three-point shot and sits with 101 in her career tied for second-place all-time at Cheyney, with Latoya Showell (2002-05) and Monica Haynes (1991-95) and only trails Martina Randall, who made 108 shots from beyond the arc from 2005-09.
Cheyney returns to action on Wednesday night when it hosts crosstown rival West Chester University with the tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (following the men's game 5:30 p.m.) inside Cope Hall.
