Women's Basketball drops 82-65 Decision at Shippensburg: 21 for Dorrielan Again,

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Yasmine Dorrielan recorded her second straight 21-point performance, but it was not enough as the Cheyney University women's basketball team could not overcome a balanced Shippensburg Raiders attack in an 82-62 loss inside Heiges Field House in PSAC action Saturday afternoon.

Dorrielan made 9-of-13 shots from the field and 3-of-5 from the line and collected a team-high eight rebounds to pace the Wolves (3-13, 1-9 PSAC E).

Five Shippensburg (3-12, 2-7 PSAC E) players scored in double-figures as the Raiders used a 51-35 advantage off the boards to erase and early seven point deficit in picking up its second league win of the season.

???????Cheyney jumped out to a 9-2 lead with a 7-0 run after the game was tied at 2-2.

Ja'la Walker started the run with a jump shot, followed by a steal and layup from Jamyra Maye and TaKayla Ellis made it a 9-2 game with a layup and free-throw with 6:23 to play in the first period.

The Wolves carried an 18-14 lead after the first ten minutes.

The Raiders opened the second with a 6-point run to take its first lead of the game, but Briana Hedgepeth grabbed and offensive rebound and made a layup and free-throw to give Cheyney a 21-20 edge.

A three-point shot from Octavia Hawkins put Cheyney ahead 26-22 another basket from Hedgepeth had the Wolves ahead 28-24 with 5:07 to play in the half.

A seven point run gave Shippensburg the lead for good, and a the Raiders held a 37-32 advantage after 20 minutes.

???????Dorrielan opened the second half with back-to-back baskets to cut the lead down to one 37-36, the Raiders responded with a 12-2 run to take a 49-38 edge and take control of the game.

???????Maye added 11 points, Hawkins made two three-pointers to finish with six points, Walker scored six points and grabbed four rebounds and Ellis scored seven points with a team-high three assists and three rebounds.

???????Cheyney continues to play on the road this week as the games with Kutztown on Wednesday, Jan. 17 originally scheduled to be played at Cope Hall has been moved to Keystone Arena, with the Golden Bears playing at Cheyney on Feb. 17.

On Saturday Jan. 20, the Wolves head to Lock Haven for a 12:00 pm tipoff with the Bald Eagles, Lock Haven will be at Cheyney on Feb. 21.
