CLARION, Pa. – A Marlon Herring steal led to a Yasmine Dorrielan layup with 1:09 remaining putting the Cheyney women's basketball team ahead to stay in a 63-60 PSAC crossover victory Wednesday night inside Tippin Gymnasium.
Jamyra Maye led the Wolves (3-10, 1-6 PSAC E), with 15 points, Takayla Ellis added 14 points, while Dorrielan finished with 10 points, including the last four.
The Golden Eagles (7-6, 2-5 PSAC W) pulled ahead on a three-point shot from Amesha Harden- Pullium, who led all players with 19 points.
???????Cheyney closed the first on a 10-point run to lead 16-11, then made it a 12-0 run to start the second and led by as many as nine the last time a 34-25 edge with 2:55 to play in the second.
The Golden Eagles finished the second with the final four points cutting the Wolves lead to 34-29 at the break.
The Wolves held a 47-41 lead late in the third period, when Clarion responded with a 9-0 run to take a 50-47 early in the fourth.
???????Maye made a layup and Ja'la Walker made a steal and a layup to put the Wolves back in front, 51-50. The teams traded the lead, when Walker made another steal and layup to put Cheyney up 55-52, but the Golden Eagles would tie the game at 57-57 on a three-point shot with 2:12 remaining.
???????Maye made two free-throws, but Harden-Pullium connected from downtown to put Clarion back in front 60-59 at the 1:48 mark.
Herring stole a pass and found Dorrielan under the hoop to put Cheyney ahead to stay with 1:09 to play.
???????Maye grabbed the defensive rebound and Dorrielan converted an offensive rebound with 28 seconds left and Cheyney withstood a final three-point attempt to secure its first league victory of the season.
The Wolves are back in PSAC East action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 1:00 PM tipoff with the Huskies.
