BLOOMSBURG, Pa. –The Cheyney University women's basketball team held a 10-point lead in the second quarter and carried a two-point advantage to the fourth quarter, but host Bloomsburg used a 19-10 fourth quarter to come away with a 69-60 victory in PSAC East action Saturday afternoon inside Nelson Field House.
Takayla Ellis led the Wolves (3-11, 1-7 PSAC E) with 18 points connecting on 4-of-9 from three point range, Jamyra Maye had a team-high five assists with 14 points and Yasmine Dorrielan pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Alyssa Mack led all players with 24 points with 21 coming in the second half to help bring the Huskies (6-8, 3-5 PSAC E) from behind.
The Wolves broke a 15-15 tie with a nine-point run, with four points at the end of the first quarter and the first five of the second period to take a 24-15 lead.
Maye started the run with two free-throws and Briana Hedgepeth made a jumper from Maye to close the quarter, Ellis opened the second with a three-pointer, then Ja'la Walker made a steal and a basket.
Mack connected from beyond the arc, but the Wolves responded with baskets from Maye and Ellis to give Cheyney a 28-18 lead at the 6:18 mark of the second.
The Wolves went to the break with a 32-27 lead.
Mack scored 13 points in the third quarter Ellis scored eight and the Wolves took a 52-50 lead to the fourth period.
The game was tied three times early in the fourth with the final time coming at the 6:47 mark after another Walker steal which led to a layup from Hedgepeth.
Mack then made back to back three-pointers to put the Huskies ahead to stay, the Wolves close within four on two occasions, but could not get any closer.
Walker collected a career-high five steals, three steals, with six points and four rebounds, Dorrielan added eight points and two blocks.
???????Cheyney is back in action Monday night with a game vs East Stroudsburg that will be held inside Hollinger Fieldhouse on the North Campus of West Chester University with the tipoff scheduled for 5:30 PM.
