24 for ELLIS, but Lady Wolves Lose 58-47 to ESU

CHEYNEY, Pa. – TaKayla Ellis scored a game-high 24 points, but the Cheyney women's basketball team could not hold onto an early 14-point lead and fell at home to visiting East Stroudsburg University 58-47 as the two teams made up a snowed out contest from January 8, Monday night in PSAC East action inside Cope Hall.

Ellis connected two three-point shots and scored eight points in a 10-0 run as the Wolves (5-19, 3-15 PSAC E) jumped out to a 10-2 lead and eventually led 22-10 after the first period with Ellis connecting on three from downtown and scoring 16 first period points.

Imani Brown led the Warriors (17-5, 15-3 PSAC E) with 19 points in the game and propelled the ESU comeback with eight second quarter points as the Warriors held a 14-7 edge in the second to cut the deficit to 29-24 at the break.

Yasmine Dorrielan scored six third period points, including a basket to tie the game at 37-37, but the Warriors used a 5-0 run to end the period and carried a 42-37 edge into the final ten minutes.

Drazana Vulic opened the quarter with a jumper to bring the Wolves within three 42-39, but both teams went cold from the field and the only scoring was five free-throws by ESU, and a layup, as the Warriors built a 10-point lead 49-39 with 5:45 to play.

Ellis would score the Wolves final eight points of the game, but Cheyney could get no closer than six down the stretch.

Dorrielan finished with 10-points and nine rebounds, Ja'la Walker grabbed 10 rebounds and Briana Hedgepeth collected eight rebounds for the Wolves.

The Wolves will entertain Shippensburg on Wednesday night with the tipoff scheduled for 5:30 inside Cope Hall as they continue a five-game home-stand to close out the season.

Kutztown University visits on Saturday, February 17, the game that tips off at 1:00 PM following the game we will honor the men's 1977-78 Division II National Championship team prior to the men's contest.
