CHEYNEY, Pa – Cheyney University women's basketball dropped a 79-52 decision to Shippensburg University Wednesday night in a pivotal PSAC East contest inside Cope Hall.
TaKayla Ellis led the Wolves (5-20, 3-16 PSAC E) with 11 points, Gianni Hill added 10 points and Yasmine Dorrielan collected 10 rebounds and three blocks for Cheyney.
Ariel Jones led all scorers with 32 points and Kryshell Gordy grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and scored 10 points for the Raiders (6-19, 5-14 PSAC East) who move two games in front of Cheyney for the sixth and final playoff spot in the east.
Octavia Hawkins added nine points and three assists, Ja'la Walker collected nine rebounds, while Briana Hedgepeth had a team and career-high four assists.
The Raiders shot 26-60 (52%) from the field, and made 23-30 (77%) free-throw attempts, while the Wolves connected on just 20-67 from the field (30%) and went 9-for- 12 (75%) from the charity stripe.
Ellis added one three-point shot to push her school record to 153 made three's and now has 982 career-points, just 18 away from becoming the 10
th women's basketball player in the NCAA era (1981-present) to reach the 1,000 point plateau at Cheyney.
The Wolves will host Kutztown University on Saturday February 17, with the tipoff scheduled for 1:00 PM.
Following the women's game and prior to the men's contest, Cheyney University will honor our 1977-78 Men's Division II National Championship team with a pre-game ceremony on the Cope Hall court.
