CHEYNEY, Pa – Jeff Lewis brought the Cope Hall crowd to its feet with a series of highlight reel dunks midway through the second half, but it was not enough to overcome visiting Bloomsburg University as the Huskies came away with a 75-58 victory in PSAC East action on Wednesday evening.
Lewis finished with a team-high 14 points many of the spectacular variety off passes from Kyle Parker who became the first Wolves (2-18, 2-13 PSAC E) player to amass 10 assists this season.
Kyle-Michael Rose led all scorers with 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Christian Mortellite added 18 points and Austin Harriot secured a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards, to pace the Huskies (13-9,, 9-9 PSAC E)in the victory.
Cheyney's inside duo of Dikemba Amugo who finished with 10 points and seven rebounds and Olin Ugo, who scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field helped the Wolves to take a 14-13 lead after falling behind 9-0.
The Huskies closed the half on a 16-8 run to take a 29-22 edge at the break.
Rose and Motellite combined to push the lead to 11, but back-to-back baskets from Ugo and a layup by Amugo cut the deficit to five, 35-30 with under 16 minutes to play.
The advantage went up to ten, when Parker set up Lewis for a flying slam, which brought the crowd out of its seats, but the Huskies responded with back-to-back three point shots and the lead ballooned to 14 48-34.
Lewis answered from downtown, then Zahir Stewart scored and Parker and Lewis combined for another spectacular alley-oop o make it a 48-41 contest with 11 minutes to play.
The Huskies built the lead back to 13 with a 7-0 run and Cheyney was able to respond with a tip-in from Jalen Branch and another Lewis dunk off a pass from Cliff St. Juste making it 54-45, but the Wolves could get no closer.
Bloomsburg held a 8 to 3 edge in three-point shots made, a 50-30 advantage on the glass and made 17-24 from the line compared to just 3-of-8 for Cheyney.
The Wolves hit the road for the final time this season on Saturday as they take the short trip to face crosstown rival West Chester University with the tipoff scheduled to 3:00 PM inside Hollinger Fieldhouse.
