Men's Basketball Dominates in 103-68 Home Opening Win Over Central Penn

Cheyney, PA – The future looks bright for Cheyney men's basketball as four freshmen reached double figures in scoring to help lead the Wolves to a resounding 103-68 triumph over Central Penn College, Wednesday night inside Cope Hall.

Jalen Boyd-Savage (Pennsauken, NJ, Paul VI HS), who scored 34 points in the season opener over host Bryant and Stratton (Rochester), Sunday afternoon, paced the Wolves with 29, while Joshua Blackmon (Clinton, MD, Fairmont Heights HS) added 20 points off the bench, Robert Keys (Philadelphia, PA, Paul Robeson HS) registered 16 points and Rynell Bert (Baltimore, MD, St. Frances Academy HS) scored 11.

Boyd-Savage put Cheyney ahead to stay with a basket at the 16:57 mark of the first half, and a Keys triple from Bert, followed by a Bert three-pointer gave the Wolves its first double-figure lead of the game with 6:13 to play in the first 35-23.The Wolves led 47-33 at halftime as Boyd-Savage paced Cheyney with 18 points and Keys had 13 at the break.

The Knights (1-6) would not get any closer in the second half as the Wolves continued to pour it on, Blackmon who scored 13 points in the second stanza, brought the crowd to its feet with a layup as Cheyney cracked the century mark.

Sophomore Kian Nixon (Upper Marlboro, MD, Feather River CC) had another strong performance with 14 points and team-high eight rebounds.

Cheyney will step up in competition as they face NCAA Division II opponents over the next two weekends, first when they head to Orangeburg, NY this weekend for the 10th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament.
Cheyney will face the host, Dominican University of New York on Saturday at 6:30 PM. The Chargers improved to 3-0 on the season with an 80-78 on Wednesday and have won its three games by a combined five-point differential.

On Sunday at 4:30 PM, Cheyney takes to the court vs 0-3 Caldwell University, who have dropped their last two games by a combined seven-points.

Cheyney will then participate in the first Annual HBCU Gameday Classic on Saturday November 26 vs Bluefield State University at 2:00 PM, then for the Battle of First vs Lincoln University (PA), on Sunday Nov. 27 at 4:00 PM inside Manuel Rivero Gymnasium, hosted by Lincoln.

Cheyney returns home on November 30, for a double-header vs Washington Adventist University with the women's game scheduled for a 5:30 PM tip-off.
