Cheyney, PA – Cheyney University women's basketball returned home for the first time in 2023 but could not hang in with a deep and talented Penn State Lehigh Valley team and fell 100-61 on Wednesday evening inside Cope Hall.
Senior
JaNya Lilly (Baltimore, MD, , Lincoln University) paced the Wolves (1-8) with 19 points, sophomore
Maciyah Washington (Bowie, MD, , CCBC Essex) added 16 points and junior
Nytasia Braxton (Camden, NJ, , Southeastern CC) reached double figures with 14 points.
Penn State Lehigh Valley (11-2) placed five players in double figures, in securing its ninth straight win, and used waves of substitutions to wear down the Wolves.
The game was rescheduled from its original January 4, time slot due to health and safety protocols, which meant it was the first game since December 11 for the Nittany Lions, and it was the second game in two nights for the Wolves who had played the night before in Takoma, MD against Washington Adventist University.
Sophomore
Jireh Kelly (Salisbury, MD, Parkside HS) led Cheyney with eight rebounds and scored six points, senior
Zinnia Wormack (Delaware County, PA , Universal Audenried Charter School) pulled down four rebounds and added four points, and senior
Jazmin Walker (Aliquippa, PA, Aliquippa HS) returned to the court for the first time since November and scored two points.
The Wolves are off until Wednesday January 18, when it travels to Dixie Hills New York, as part of a doubleheader, to take on Five Towns College. Tipoff for the women's contest scheduled for 6 PM and the men to follow at 8 PM.
