Cheyney, PA. - Head Coach Kennetha Wallace '15, returns to Cheyney to lead the Cheyney women's volleyball team in 2023.
Coach Wallace was a four-year member of the Wolves from 2011-2014 as a libero and setter. Wallace, who is originally from Nashville, Tennessee, is entering the first season as a collegiate head coach after working at Norristown High School.
Wallace and the Wolves open the season Tuesday night at 7:00 PM, against Division III opponent York College of Pennsylvania, at Cheyney's home away from home, the Glen Mills School, located at 185 Glen Mills Rd, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
The Wolves return a young core of players who gained experience in 2022.
Junior Jireh Kelly led Cheyney with 83 Kills and 67 digs, while adding 18 aces in her first season at Cheyney. Kelly then immediately joined the women's basketball team for the 22-23 season.
Sophomore Kennedy Jones paced the Wolves with 22 aces and trailed only Kelly with 59 kills, and 56 digs.
Junior Vita Fitch dished out a team-high 104 assists and was second to Jones with 20 aces.
Sophomore Tania Hall was second in assists with 47 and was credited with 18 service aces in only nine matches played in 2022.
Senior Hassana Coleman, along with Junior Julia Kinney-Bell look to make significant contributions to the Wolves in 2023.
Paris Coaxum, a six-foot freshman, who like coach Wallace, is a product of the Starlites volleyball club, classmate Kanay Drakeford and sophomores Koulia Lewis and Tyanna Hylton round out the Wolves 2023 squad.
While Tuesday night will be a season-opening contest for the Wolves, the Spartans of York College of Pennsylvania sport a 5-2 record on the season and are led by Head Coach Dan Mickle who is in his seventh season at the helm at York.
