The Cheyney Lady Wolves opened the season falling 72-58 to the Trojans of Virginia State (4-0).
Cheyney had a trio of players in double figures led by Amber Genwright's 13 points. Kyra Hines-Allen and Kia Whitley-Duncan chipped in 11 points apiece. Kiana Jackson led Cheyney with 10 rebounds.

The Lady Wolves battled tough the entire game. Cheyney trailed by two, 25-23 with 3:41 to play in the first half however, the Trojans used a 9-4 run at the end of the half to take a 34-26 lead into the locker room. Virginia State quickly go the lead up to 15 points three minutes into the second half but Cheyney fought hard to cut the lead back down to seven, 37-44. Owning a seven point advantage VSU went on an 11-4 run to bring the lead up to 16, their biggest of the night. Cheyney was able to cut the deficit to 11 but could not get any closer.

Da'Shae Jones pace the Trojans with 18 and Tiffanie Adair netted 16. Lamesha Deal registered a double double scoring 12 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.

Cheyney travels to cross town rival West Chester on Wednesday night to open PSAC East play at 7:30 pm.
