UMES Tops Lady Wolves

Cheyney (1-3) fell to UMES (1-4) 63-38 in a non-conference tilt that featured the Lady Wolves playing their only Division I opponent on this year's schedule.  Lila Jones came off the bench to lead Cheyney with 12 points. 

The Lady Wolves owned a 12-11 lead seven minutes into the contest.  Jones tallied eight of the Lady Wolves first 12 points including two three-pointers.  However, the Lady Hawks went on an 11-0 over the next seven minutes to take a 22-12 lead.  Cheyney went into the locker room down 11, 27-16.  The Lady Wolves, TaKayla Ellis scored the first points of the second half to bring the deficit down to single digits.  UMES answered with a 6-0 run to push the lead to double figures where it stayed the remainder of the contest.  With 14 minutes to play the Lady Wolves trimmed the lead to 10, 37-27.  However, over the next six minutes UMES went on a 16-0 to extend the lead to 53-27 with 7:43 to play.  A lead that was to big for the Lady Wolves to overcome. 

Shawnee Sweeney paced the Lady Hawks with 13 points.  Team mate Alexis Udoji added 11 points and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds. 

The Lady Wolves continue their road trip at Virginia State on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Chick-Fil-A Classic.  Cheyney will play the host on Friday and Elizabeth City on Saturday.
