Ellis Nets Career High…….Lady Wolves Handle Marauders

Box Score

TaKayla Ellis netted a career high 22 points to lead Cheyney (3-12:3-7) to a 70-63 over host Millersville (10-6:7-4). It was the Marauders first home loss of the season.

"I'm really proud of our kids," commented Coach Adams.  "They have continued to believe in the process.  TaKayla hit some huge shots to sustain us early.  I was really proud of our desire to play defense as a unit.  This was a huge win for our program.  I think it was the first time we defeated Millersville on their home court.  We have a lot of respect for Coach Fleig and what she has built at Millersville.  We are excited about our potential to continue to improve."

Ellis scored the Lady Wolves first nine points of the contests nailing three of her first four shots.  She finished the afternoon converting six of 10 from behind the arc.  Cheyney owned an early seven point advantage but the Marauders battled back to tie the game at 17.  The game see-sawed the remainder of the half as the teams went into the locker room knotted at 34.

With 6:48 to play and the game tied at 53 the Lady Wolves went on a 9-2 run to take seven point lead with 5:00 minutes to play.  Cheyney was able to keep the Marauders at bay converting seven of seven free throws down the stretch.

The Marauders came into the contest as the leader in the PSAC in field goal defense.  However, the Cheyney shooters made 49% of their attempts.

Aunjel Van Brakle came off the bench to pace Millersville with 13 points.

Cheyney returns home Wednesday to face East Stroudsburg.  Tip-off in Cope Hall is 6:00 pm.
